SARS Research
Projects
Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) consists of
fever and respiratory symptoms that may prgress to respiratory failure
and, in approximately 15% of cases, death. In 2003, more than 300
people in Ontario were diagnosed with probable or suspected SARS.
More than 75% of them acquired the syndrome in a hospital and the
majority were health care workers (HCW). There are numerous research
projects and investigations underway to help further our understanding
of this new disease.
