SARS Intubation Investigation
The SARS Intubation Investigation is a collaborative
effort between numerous public health organizations, including Health
Canada and the Ontario Public Health Branch. This investigation
looks at endotracheal intubation of SARS patients as a risk factor
associated with transmission of SARS to health care workers. Endotracheal
intubation is a process in which a tube is inserted into the trachea,
and has the potential to expose healthcare workers to respiratory
secretions and droplets.
In order to understand the risk factors, interviews are
being conducted with healthcare workers who came in contact with
SARS patients around the time of intubation. These interviews will
determine the type of contact , procedures, and infection control
practices that occurred. These interviews will take approximately
15 - 20 minutes and participation will remain completely confidential.
Responses will not be used on an individual basis, but will be analyzed
as part of the group cohort analysis.
If you have been contacted by one of our interviewers,
and would like to know more information about this investigation,
