Large, near round, thick-walled, broad base budding yeast

Large round single cells when sitting side by side, may be confused with immature spherules of Coccidioides or detached Blastomyces.

To separate one from the other, observe true budding, or
variable cell size including other structures. In our example, Gram smear confirmed Blastomyces
