Gram over stained by CW

A: Calcofluor White x400

• Small oval budding yeast with narrow attachment

• Some appear in chain (3 to 4 cells)

• Some times Calcofluor White fails to stain Histoplasma

B: Gram x1000 from BAL

• Oval budding cells in cluster (unstained & vacuolated)

• Gram stain does not stain Histoplasma, however intracellular structures may be seen
