Fungus Looking Like Pseudohyphae
• A 60 years old
male emigrated to Canada from Somalia
• He went to the
Middle East for temporary job
• He came back to
Canada with brain abscess
• Brain biopsy was
performed and sent to microbiology
• Gram stain showed
pseudohyphae like structure, later identified as septate hyphae
• Fungi-Fluor showed
thin hyphae, non-dichotomous (not Aspergillus)
• Wet preparation
demonstrated light pigmentation in fungal hyphae
• After 10 days a
dark mould was isolated
