Opportunistic Fungus

• Post lung transplant patient, male 49 years old

• Patient went in the woods, got injured by a tree branch fell on his leg

• At day 10, a lump began to appear at the site of injury

• Local hospital treated the infection with antibiotics without resolve

• Patient was referred to the Infection Disease Service team

• Leg aspirate was drawn and sent for culture and sensitivity

• Gram stain results reported out as no bacteria seen

• Culture media grew glabrous type of growth looking like fungus

• Gram smear was reviewed & fungal elements were seen
