Opportunistic Fungus

Post lung transplant patient, male 49 years old

Patient went in the woods, got injured by a tree branch fell on his leg

At day 10, a lump began to appear at the site of injury

Local hospital treated the infection with antibiotics without resolve

Patient was referred to the Infection Disease Service team

Leg aspirate was drawn and sent for culture and sensitivity

Gram stain results reported out as no bacteria seen

Culture media grew glabrous type of growth looking like fungus

Gram smear was reviewed & fungal elements were seen
