Control Overview
The goal of the Mount Sinai Hospital infection control team is
to prevent the transmission of infection between hospital patients,
personnel, visitors, and other potential contacts. The methods
by which this is accomplished include:
- Education: Increase awareness of infection
control issues and practices. People are more likely to follow
infection control guidelines when they understand the principles
behind them.
- Infection Surveillance: Monitor and investigate
exposures and outbreaks of potentially serious infectious diseases.
Early detection and containment is essential in proper infection
control.
- Consultation: Provide guidance on avoiding
infection risks and implementing preventative policies and actions.
Policies must be uniform and require the co-operative involvement
of other departments.
- Research: Find more effective, efficient,
and practical infection control methods. Diseases are changing
and infection control resources are changing. New methods of
infection control within the hospital and healthcare environment
should constantly be evaluated.
