Biography

Margaret McArthur co-ordinates several studies related to infection in the elderly and infection control in long term care facilities. Currently she is working on three clinical trials related to infection prevention in the elderly; the effect of multivitamins in preventing infection in residents of long term care facilities; vaccine for respiratory syncycial virus and the use of neurominadase inhibitors in decreasing influenza illness in the elderly. In addition, she is co-ordinating a telephone survey to determine pneumococcal and influenza vaccination status in at-risk populations in the community.

Before joining the research group in 1989, Margaret was the Infection Control Practitioner at Riverdale Hospital, a chronic care and rehabilitation facility in Toronto.
