A Randomized Trial and Economic Analysis Comparing
the Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Antigenemia Assay and Day 35 Screening
Bronchoscopy for the Early Detection and Prevention of CMV Disease
in Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant Recipients
Many strategies have been shown to be effective in preventing
CMV disease in bone marrow transplant recipients (BMT). However,
few randomized trials have been conducted comparing these strategies.
Therefore, the aim of this study is to randomly assign patients
past-BMT to two different CMV prevention strategies and to measure
the incidence of CMV disease and death. As well, an economic analysis
will be conducted to determine the relative costs of these strategies.
