The Canadian Bacterial Surveillance Network monitors the prevalence, mechanisms and epidemiology of antibiotic resistance in Canada.

CBSN is a subgroup of the Canadian Bacterial Diseases Network, which is one of 15 Networks of Centres of Excellence (a Canada-wide consortium of researchers whose work focuses on bacterial disease). The surveillance network is comprised of a group of clinical laboratories across Canada who voluntarily provide data and bacterial isolates for epidemiological and microbiological study. The goals of this work are to identify problems of emerging bacterial resistance and changing epidemiology and ensure that health care providers have the data needed to establish appropriate laboratory testing guidelines and patient management strategies.
